Finding more information on an old book?

I have a copy of “Little Women” by Louisa May Alcott, but I’m not able to find the publishing date. I’m sure that its earlier than 1965 (due to it belonging to my mom before she got married), but there is no date listed inside.

This is a “Modern Abridged Edition”, hardback with a green and yellow background and red font for the title. As far as I know there is no dust jacket. It was illustrated by Jill Elgin in black and white with some green highlights.

On the page where the date & library of congress information is usually printed, only the following data is given:

“Copyright, MCMLV, by
WHITMAN PUBLISHING COMPANY
Racine, Wisconsin

Printed in U.S.A. by
Western Printing and Lithographing Company”

I’m trying to find some more information on the book’s value before it gets mauled by a niece of mine :D

MCMLV is roman numerals for the copyright year.
m = 1000
cm = 900
l = 50
v = 5
==1955
